Manage Deliverables in MS Project Professional 2007

1. Create Deliverables:
Once your project workspace is created by publishing the plan, you can create the deliverables in the project plan.
Steps:
- Open project plan by connecting to server
- Click on Collaborate menu -> Manage Deliverables
- You will see the Deliverables section on side pane
- MS Project displays the message "No deliverables have been defined" on your first attempt of deliverable creation
- Click on Add new deliverable
- Select the task you want to link to the Deliverable, then click on “Link to selected task”
- MS Project displays the Task Name, Start Date and Finish Date of the selected task into the Deliverables Details box
- Optional step: You can give the new name to deliverable. It is not required to keep the task name.
- Optional step: You can change the Start and Finish Dates
- Note: You can manage the deliverable by associating to task, but it is not required to have task's start/finish dates. Deliverables can be tracked without affecting the task schedules in the project plan.
- Click "Done"
- MS Project displays the new deliverable at the top of the Deliverables side pane
- If you want to add more deliverable items, click on "Add new deliverable" and repeat the steps
- Save project plan
2. Edit Deliverables:
To edit the existing deliverable information, please follow the below steps:
- Click on Collaborate menu -> Manage Deliverables
- MS Project displays the existing deliverables in side pane
- Keep the mouse pointer on deliverable's title
- Choose the one of the required option
- Edit Deliverable: To edit the deliverable information on MS Project Professional, click on this link
- Edit in browser: To perform the edits by navigating to deliverable section of the project workspace, click on this link
- Delete Deliverable: To delete the existing deliverable information from project, click on this link.
3. Synchronization of deliverables between Project Workspace and Project Plan:
Deliverables are exists in Project Plan and Project Workspace. Please read
Manage Deliverables in Project WorkSpace for more details.
Project Professional checks for discrepancies between the project plan and project workspace. If any discrepancies finds, project managers get informed of the change of the deliverable when they open their project plan.
Project Professional 2007 displays a red exclamation icon to the left of the name of the deliverable. Red exclamation means that the deliverable information in the project plan is out of sync with deliverable in Project Workspace. By keeping the mouse pointer over the name of the deliverable, project professional displays the information about the cause for synchronization.
To sync up the information between Project Plan and Project Workspace, click on "Accept all server changes" link
Click "OK" on confirmation dialog box to sync the changes.
4. MS Project Deliverables Columns:
Each deliverable has the following columns associated with task. You can insert the following columns in Gantt Chart.
- Deliverable Name
- Deliverable Type
- Deliverable Start
- Deliverable Finish
- Deliverable GUID
Deliverable Type is 0, if the task is not associated with deliverable
Deliverable Type is 1, if the task is associated with deliverable
Deliverable Type is 2, if the task is associated with dependency deliverable
