To setup Project Server 2013 or Project Server 2010 demo version on your PC, you can avail the benefit of trial software available on Microsoft site. You can run the Project Server for 180 days.

The real concern is, to setup Windows Server to install Project Server. I am sure, most of us doesn't have a Windows Server machine to install the Project Server. Well, here is the solution. You can build Windows Server on your Windows 8/ Windows 7/ Mac machines. You can take the advantage of Virtualization Technology (VT) to build Windows Server Virtual Machine on your PC. “Virtualization plus Trail software” is your Project Server demo machine.

This article guide you to build Project Server on a single server with a built-in database. Please note, you are not installing the Database server on this approach, SharePoint 2013 installation process will installs Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 Express Edition and the SharePoint product.

NOTE: SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) and OLAP are not present in standalone Project Server 2013 installation. SharePoint User Profile synchronization does not work with the Express Edition; A Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 Express Edition database will support maximum 10 GB. Please keep your demo data within this limit.

The following trial software available to download and explore for 180 days. Please use either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012 as operating system for Project Server.
