In your organization, you may want to expose Microsoft Office Project Web Access data to users who are not part of your internal domain. For example, you may want external vendors to have temporary access to data that is available on your intranet without adding them to your corporate directory.
This is typically accomplished by creating a Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 extranet environment.
Creating an Office Project Server 2007 extranet environment provides you the following benefits:
-
Data isolation: Internal Office Project Web Access data is exposed to users through a separate Internet Information Services (IIS) Web site. Extranet users are not able to access other types of data hosted on the server farm.
-
Separate authentication of partner accounts : Partner accounts can be managed through forms authentication. User access to the site is authenticated through a user name/password authenticated through a forms membership provider.
