In order to connect MS Project Server 2010, the following prerequisites must be met:
- MS Project Professional 2010 installed on your computer
OR
If your Project Server 2010 is running in BCM mode, you can also use Project Professional 2007 to connect the server
- MS Project Server URL (PWA URL) must be accessible from your browser
- You must have MS Project Server user account with required permissions (Project Manager or similar permissions)
Once you met all above prerequisites, you must enter your user account name and connection information in the Account Properties dialog box in Project Professional.
Steps to define the MS Project Server account in MS Project 2010 client:
- Launch MS Project 2010
(Start menu -> All Programs -> Microsoft Office -> Microsoft Project 2010
- File tab -> Info -> click on Manage Accounts
- Click Add button in Project Server Accounts windows
- In the Account Properties dialog box, type a name for this account in the Account Name box (for example: MSPS 2010).
In the Project Server URL box, type the URL of the PWA
To make this your default Project Server account, select the Set as default account check box
Click OK to close the Account Properties dialog box

On the Project Server Accounts dialog box, Select Choose an account" option under When Starting setting
This option will give you a flexibility to choose a server account vs. local account every time that you open Project Professional 2010.
- Click OK to close the Project Server Accounts windows
- File tab -> Exit to close the Project 2010 client
Steps to connect MS Project Server from MS Project 2010 client:
- Launch MS Project 2010
(Start menu -> All Programs -> Microsoft Office -> Microsoft Project 2010
- Select Project Server account from Login dropdown
- File -> Open -> Retrieve the list of all projects from Project Server
- Highlight the project name; Choose Mode and Store and click OK to open project plan
- Project plan will open from server
