Fig 1: Project information prior to save baseline ; no actuals reported

Please see in above fig, Baseline Start. Baseline Finish, Baseline Duration, Baseline Work and Baseline Costs are NA. This is due to; no baseline information is available for this project plan.

Also note that Actual Start, Actual Finish, Actual Duration, Actual Work and Actual Costs field are 0. This is due to: no actuals reported for this project.

Now, you save the baseline for this project. Please use Tools -> Tracking -> Save Baseline; Please choose Entire Project option. After you’ve save the baseline, please see again the project statistics information. (Fig. 2) Please note that baseline information should identical to the current information.

Fig 2: Project information after saving the baseline, no actuals reported

After saving the baseline, you are ready track the project. Depends on the method you adopted (% Complete or Actual work reported by team member through PWA), you have to update the project. Once your project updated with progress, you can review the project’s current status by comparing with baseline.

Open the Project information dialog box again and view the baseline and actual info. (Fig 3)

In above fig, project has been accrued actual hours 40; also see the duration, now project is ending on 2/13 instead of 2/12. You see the one day variance on schedule.
