MS Project -> Preferred Options
   1) Set the date format for Tasks

    Tools menu -> Options -> Click on View tab -> Choose the Date format from dropdown -> Click OK

   2) Specify default view for your project plan

    Tools menu -> Options -> Click on View tab -> Under Default view, choose the required view from dropdown -> Click OK

    Next time, when you launch the Project, specified default view will be loaded.

   3) Save and Publish assignments on every update of Project Plan

     Tools -> Options -> Collaborate -> Under "On every save, publish the following information to Project Server" -> New and Changed Assignments/Project Summary/Including full project plan

   4) Change Time Scale on Task Usage/Resource Usage View

     Three tier view (top, middle and bottom):

    This option is best suitable to show the three tier time scale, Years at top; Months at Middle;
Weeks at bottom

Steps:
  • Format menu -> Time Scale -> Click on Top Tier tab -> Under “Time Scale Options -> Choose “Three Tiers (Top, middle, bottom)
  • Under “Top Tier Formatting” -> Under “Units” -> Choose “Years” and also choose “Label” for format
  • Click on Middle Tier tab -> Under “Middle Tier Formatting” -> Under “Units” -> Choose “Months” and also choose “Label” for format
  • Under “Bottom Tier Formatting” -> Under “Units” -> Choose “Weeks” and also choose “Label” for format
  • Click OK to apply the changes


   5) Specify Earned Value Calculations

  • Under Tools menu -> Options
  • Click on Calculation tab and Click on Earned Value
  • Choose Default task Earned Value method and Baseline for Earned Value calculations from dropdown and click OK
