MS Project 2007 -> MS Project Server 2007 - Work Offline
  
Project Server 2007 introduces a new client-side cache and caching service. By having local cache mechanism, Project Server 2007 and Project Professional 2007 allows us to work offline on project plans.

Work Offline feature is more convenient and handy feature when you away from company network and internet connection. You can able to work on project plan when you travelling by air.



Step 1: Prepare project in Offline mode:
  • Launch Project Professional 2007 by connecting to Project Server
  • Open the enterprise project you want to work offline
  • Click on File menu -> Close to close the project
  • You will see the following prompt you to get the confirmation from you regarding whether you want to checkin project



  • In the confirmation window, click on “No” to close the project but leave it in a checked-out state. (It’s an important to keep the project in checked-out state, so no other user opens the same project and perform any edits while you are working with in offline)
  • Click on File menu -> Exit to the exit Project Professional 2007
By doing the above step, the latest version of project from server loads into your Local cache.



Step 2: Perform Edits in Offline mode:
  • Launch Project Professional 2007
  • In the Login dialog box, select the your Project Server login account from Profile dropdown (Please do not select Computer account from dropdown)
  • Click on Work Offline button



  • Project Professional 2007 launches in Offline mode (Verify the status bar at below, it should display “Offline” )
  • Click on File menu -> Open
  • You will see the list of the projects saved in the Local Cache, select your offline project and click the Open. (Notice that Cache Status column will have “Checked Out” for this project. If you are not seeing the Cache Status in Open dialog click the list icon in the upper right corner of the dialog box)
  • Edit the project as needed
  • Once you done with edits, click on File menu -> Save to the save the Offline project in the Local Cache
  • Click on File -> Close to close the Offline project
  • Click No to the prompt on regarding Checkin Project
  • Click on File menu -> Exit to exit the Project Professional 2007



Step 3: Save Offline Changes to the Sever:

Once you return to company network and internet connection, you have to apply offline edits to server.
  • Launch Project Professional 2007 by connecting to Project Server
  • Click on File menu -> Open
  • Select offline project and click on Open button
  • Click on File menu -> Save to apply your offline edits to project in the server
  • Click on File menu -> Close the project plan
  • Click on “Yes” to check in the project on prompt to get the confirmation from you regarding whether you want to checkin project
