Resource Assignments:
When you assign a resource to a task, MS Project schedules the resource’s work to start at the time that task is scheduled to start. Generally, project only schedules work during the dates and times that are defined as working time on the resource’s calendar. Task schedule totally depends on resource working time on resource calendar.
Once you added resources to project plan, resources can assign to the tasks. You can use Gantt chart or Task form to assign the resources to tasks.
You can assign the resources to task by one of the following methods:
a) Gantt chart: On Gantt chart, use the Resource name column to assign the resource. If you click on cell under Resource Name, you will see all the resource names which are already added in to the project.
b) Task Information dialogue box: On Gantt chart view, double click on task name to view the task information. Choose the Resource tab
c)Task form: On Gantt chart, click on Window menu and choose Split to display the Task form in the bottom pane. Click on required task name from top pane to enter the resource names. You have to enter the resource names from bottom pane under Resource Name.
Please always note the resource units for each resource, which plays important role in scheduled work for each resource.
If a resource unit is assigned 100% to a task, Project schedules 100% of the hours in the calendar for that resource. However, if the resource unit is assigned to a task at 505, Project only schedules 50% of the available hours on any given day.
MS Project calculated the work as follows:
Work = Duration * Unites
i.e. Duration = Work/Unites
